The Light of The World

VERSE OF THE DAY: ~ Matthew 5:14-17 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”
If you’ve been a Christian for any amount of time it’s likely that you’ve heard many sermons on this topic declaring a variety of opinions or interpretations of what it means to be the light of the world. I don’t believe Jesus meant to confuse us with this statement. Being the light of the world is not something that we have to conjure up or remind ourselves for example; “this is what I’m ‘supposed’ to do or be, because, after all I am a ‘Christian.'” Rather, I believe this is a continuation of the statement above, where Jesus says you are the salt of the earth. Jesus was talking to the Jewish people, who were God’s covenant people. Likewise, when we receive Christ’s salvation, we no longer belong to this world nor should we have any part of it. This world is under the dominion of darkness and God’s covenant people, those who have been born-again have been conveyed into the marvelous kingdom of His light. As His witnesses we bring light with us wherever we go.
You can tell when somebody has a genuine conversion because they cannot be quiet about it, nor should they. In fact, when Jesus moves in and the world moves out, we become filled with joy unspeakable and full of glory! Something that the world could never give us through all of its vices. We need not be ashamed of the gospel or try to cover and damper the light of Christ that dwells in us. In fact, the more we let the light shine and flow out of us the brighter it becomes so never allow yourself to be ashamed of reaching out with love and praying for a sick person to be healed or for somebody in bondage to be delivered, or even to proclaim the freedom of Jesus Christ over somebody who is in bondage to a habit that they cannot break on their own. It’s for these people, that Christ came and lives in you. You are the light, a beacon of hope to a world that is bound by darkness! Freely give for freely you have received.
PRAYER: “Lord, let your light overcome me so brightly that nothing can damper or douse its flames fill me Holy Spirit to overflowing that the good works of God would manifest in everything I say and do. Don’t allow the flame to grow dim. Don’t allow the light of the Holy Spirit nor the light of your word that lives in me to darken our dampen but let it burn bright and clear fan it into a flame! Come now Spirit of the living God and fan the gift of God’s grace in my life into a flame, a flame that burns bright and clear that the whole world could see you, know and sense the spirit of God’s love flowing from my very being. In Jesus name amen!”
VERSE FOR FEARLESS LIVING! ~ Acts 14:3 “Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.”
