By Your Generous Spirit!

VERSE OF THE DAY: ~ Psalm 51:10-13 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.”

What is that most challenging thing forming a barrier between you and the person you dream about becoming or that God wants you to be? Perhaps there is a mindset, an addiction, or a habit holding on to you? Or, like many, your spirit has been wounded to the point where you no longer believe in the possibilities of change because you’ve tried so many times before with limited success. King David the writer of this Psalm, was the most powerful man in the world at this time and he had blown it big time. He failed his family, his people, his army and ultimately, he failed God. There was an issue in David’s life that was working inside him for years. It was the source of his failures despite his many successes. Now he gives us all a few powerful and valuable keys for conquering strongholds in our life!

First off, we can know beyond doubt that God is in the business of re-creating or renewing spirits and hearts. Ezekiel the prophet writes that God’s desire is to give us a new heart and to put a new spirit within us.(Eze 36:26) That is the good news of the gospel! YAY! David recognized that what he needed was more than a superficial pep talk, or how to become a ‘better’ you. He didn’t need a spiritual make over or the latest steps in how to claim success! He needed a new heart and a right spirit! And he knew the way to get them was through genuine remorse and repentance. He also knew that the source of all of this can only be found in the presence of the Almighty and through the work of Holy Spirit. In His presence we find the fullness of joy(Ps 16:11), in His presence is the life transforming power that causes us to see and react differently to life. It is Holy Spirit guidance that empowers any who receive to become pro-active in how one faces life. God says in John 3:34 that He gives His Spirit without measure.

Could it be time to allow God to do for you what He does better than anyone else? Is it time for a renewal of heart and spirit? Only God has that kind of life changing power, and His word says if you seek him you will find Him when you seek with your whole heart.(Jer 29:13)       

PRAYER: “Father God, today I come to You with my whole heart, I ask You to transform my heart and make it new again, I ask You to renew my spirit within me as I turn away from everything in my life that has ever put a barrier between me and You. I thank You for a renewed mind, body, spirit and for a new heart. Holy Spirit I ask You to increase my awareness of Your presence in and around my life. I acknowledge my need to be closer to You Lord so I ask You bring me closer as You fill me with the joy of Your salvation, and renew me day by day as I spend time seeking You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”
