Looking Unto Jesus

VERSE OF THE DAY: ~ Hebrews 12:1-4 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.”
This chapter starts with the word “therefore” meaning it hinges upon what was written before it. Hebrews 11 is the chapter of faith describing many of the Old Testament prophets, judges and other men/women of faith yet they did not ever see the promised Messiah. We who live after Christ have the benefit of knowing that He came and we can walk in the full benefit of his promises. Therefore, it should be easier for us to lay aside every weight and hindrance and run with all we’ve got for the finish line! Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith… but do you know what the joy set before Him that helped Him endure the cross was?
It was you and I. Knowing that the work of the cross would allow you and me the freedom to gain salvation is such a joy for Jesus that it outweighed the pain and suffering of the cross! These verses are also saying that most of what we go through will never be as horrific as the cross. That can be used as an encouragement for us when things get tough. He has plans for you! He wants you to play a role in impacting our world for the gospel of His kingdom. And because we are here after His life, death and resurrection we have the capability to make a greater impact than any of those written about in Hebrews 11. Now that’s good news!
PRAYER: “Thank you Lord for placing so much value on who I am in You that You endured the cross to purchase my future in Your kingdom. Holy Spirit lead me, guide me and teach me in the ways of the Father and instruct me in Your will for my life as I walk with You each day. I set my ears to hear Your voice, and I set my heart to receive Your guidance. In Jesus name, amen.”
VERSE FOR FEARLESS LIVING! ~ Psalm 56:4 “In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?”
