By My God I Can Leap Over a Wall

VERSE OF THE DAY: Psalms 18:28-30 ” For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall.  As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

What’s being said here is so much more than a concept or an idealistic metaphor of spiritual enlightenment designed to make us feel like we could do anything. This isn’t positive meditation or fantasy, neither is it some distant dream to help David cope with his current circumstances. What’s being said here is David’s testimony of who God is and how He truly showed Himself faithful, victorious and valiant through what may have been the most difficult battle David ever fought. The promise from God that He would make David king had just been realized.  King Saul was defeated by the Philistine army and David has been given the throne of Israel. The battle was the Lords, He fought for David and fulfilled His promise to make David king.

What David was doing throughout much of Psalms 18 is giving God the glory due because God truly is the light of our lamp who enlightens our darkness. The Lord had just brought David through a dark time because David loved King Saul and Saul’s son Jonathan was like a brother to him. Yet, David acknowledged, that the way of the Lord is perfect, and that when the Lord speaks a word, He will fulfill that word and honor His promise. David was so confident that the word of the Lord is proven that he considered it as trustworthy as a shield in time of battle. It is my belief that David maintained this shield like faith in God’s word because of the intimate relationship that David held with the Lord, as well as the high value that David placed on the presence of God.

PRAYER: “Lord I love Your presence, I love knowing You.  I ask You Lord  to increase my awareness of Your presence in my life and to lead me into a more intimate relationship with You. I also profess faith in the promises that You put into my heart that You, Lord God, are capable and willing to fulfill the promises that You speak and what You have written in Your word, show me when and how I should go about fulfilling my part in seeing Your promises manifest. Help me to know and trust that You will always be faithful to fulfill what You speak. Your word Lord is an anchor to my soul. I pray these things Jesus name, amen.”
