Blessed Is The One Who Trusts The Lord

Blessing means to have God’s favor working for you, to have His enabling grace supernaturally working on your behalf. To be cursed is the opposite it means that a person is in resistance to God and therefore in opposition to the working of His divine favor or to be removed from it. Some blessing comes instantly. It is immediate upon the day we are converted. Jeremiah is describing the blessing or curse that accumulates in accordance to what we sow into our lives daily and build our life upon. The question is not whether I trust, but rather in whom or in what do I choose to place my trust? The prophet writes in today’s text that blessing or curse can be directly related to what we choose to put our trust in.
Jeremiah 17:5-8 “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
So I ponder the questions; What is my way of life? What are those things that I can see, touch, taste, or handle, what are those things I choose to listen to or have learned to physically depend on in place of the only living God, who requires my faith? Is it the wisdom and knowledge of this world? Is it the size of my bank account or stock portfolio? Surely these things are not evil or wrong, but when my trust is in the Lord, I have an eternal foundation to stand upon. I will not fear when heat comes! Yes, there is a way that seems right to a man, but to what end? I will believe in the God who’s desire is only goodness towards me.
PRAYER: “God today I ask for wisdom and discretion to be able to know Your will and desires for the details of my life? I choose to continually put my trust in You, regardless of the appearance of my circumstances. I ask that You increase Your faith and wisdom in, upon and around my life so I can see and pursue Your plans for me. Thank You Jesus for hearing my prayer. Amen”
