Hidden Treasure

VERSE OF THE DAY: ~Matthew 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

I can see at least two points of view for what the treasure is in this parable; First, is the view that the treasure is salvation or entry to the kingdom of God and the man could be any person who happens to recognize the value of God’s kingdom so he becomes willing to lay down his life for the privilege of being able to get saved. Now he has a field with the unsearchable riches of Christ to his avail and can spend the rest of his earthly life exploring and enjoying all the treasures that come with God’s kingdom. You never know he might even invite a friend to come over and join in on the fun.

Earlier in the chapter, while explaining another parable, Christ says that the field is the world. If that holds true in this parable as well, then it makes sense to me that the man is Christ. If the man in this parable is Christ then it makes sense that the treasure is mankind. This perspective that you and I are objects of great value and worth in the sight of God. You are worth so much in the sight of God that Christ took joy in laying His life down for you! Hebrews 12:2 says “…for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Well that is a couple simple explanations I think both true. Finding Christ has been my greatest treasure and out of His powerful love for us, He took pleasure in laying down His life for each and every one.

PRAYER: “Thank you so much Jesus for Your sacrifice on the cross! You purchased me and are making me whole every day. It truly is my great pleasure to die to self and live through You. I love You Jesus and worship You with all that I am. Amen!”
