Children of God

VERSE OF THE DAY:  ~ John 1:11-14 “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

There’s at least three things to consider from this text. First is the reference to how Jesus came to the Jews and many of them rejected Him. I acknowledge the Jews that did recognize Christ as the coming Messiah, but this text inadvertently describes how those who rejected Christ actually lost their sonship. It is a misconception to assume that just because a person is born they are a child of God for this Scripture teaches us that only those who receive Jesus have the right to become children of God. Along the same lines, we find reference in Romans 8:14 that only those who are led of the Spirit are the sons of God. (Nobody is excluded from the invitation to be born of and led by Holy Spirit). Next, we have to look at what it means to be born of God for this Scripture clearly illustrates an agreement with Jesus’ statement in John three that a man must be born again, born of the flesh and then born of the Spirit, in order to inherit the kingdom of God. This brings us to the next consideration.

One could easily glance past a very important and powerful truth that is illustrated in this text. It is a truth that deals with the identity of a human being. Some place their identity in the prestige of family position, social status, athletic ability, or other gift or talent by which they may have been endowed with at birth. All of these things come from being ‘born’ of blood, the will of the flesh, or born of the will of man. There are many ways by which a person can come up with or accept an identity that is not God’s original plan or design for their life. But when we become born of God, we now have the right and the freedom to become our created identity to the fullest. That is salvation. That is the good news of the gospel!

PRAYER: “Jesus I thank you for coming into this world and making a way for us to find salvation and be restored to the created identity that you intended for us to have all along. I thank you for breaking all the strongholds of darkness and redeeming mankind by becoming sin for us on the cross. Therefore, purchasing our salvation healing, deliverance and freedom to worship you. I thank you for your goodness God and express the love and worship of my heart towards your majestic throne in, Jesus name Amen.”

VERSE FOR FEARLESS LIVING!  ~  Isaiah 8:12 “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”
